m-dPEG®36-MAL, product number 10931, is a methyl-terminated, thiol-reactive, monodispersed PEGylation product designed for surface and biomolecule modification. One end of the molecule terminates in a maleimido-propionic acid group, which conjugates to the dPEG® spacer by an amide bond. The maleimide moiety reacts with sulfhydryls to form a thioether bond.

PEGylation with dPEG® reagents

The dPEG® tradename is Quanta BioDesign’s internationally recognized name for monodispersed PEGylation reagents. Quanta BioDesign synthesizes all of its single molecular weight dPEG® products from high-purity starting materials. We build them in stepwise processes to form high-purity final products. Our dPEG® products are quite different from traditional PEGylation reagents, which are dispersed polymers. dPEG® compounds provide all of the benefits of conventional polymer PEGylation reagents, but they have no dispersity (Ð = 1), which means that conjugates formed with dPEG® products are simpler to analyze than products created with polymer PEG products. We build our products with a variety of architectures and a diverse set of functional, reactive, and protective groups to provide our customers as much help as possible to accomplish their goals.

Frequently Asked Questions (about dPEG® products)

m-dPEG®36-MAL is one member in a line of products with different dPEG® spacer lengths. There are many possible uses for this product. These uses include the following:

  • Surface coating and passivation of thiolated nanoparticles;
  • Modification of cysteine residues on peptides, proteins, and other sulfhydryl-containing molecules to increase hydrophilicity and decrease immunogenicity;
  • Modification of cysteine residues on peptides, proteins, and other sulfhydryl-containing molecules to increase hydrodynamic volume and reduce or eliminate renal clearance of the modified compound;
  • Supramolecular construction (for example, of hydrogels); and,
  • As a probe of protein structure or enzymatic function.
